A girl who wants to do something for the first time, often, so she will!

On a whim my husband and I decided to take a trip to Ocean Shores, Washington and bring Naomi (our Blue Heeler/Pit Bull mix) with us. The City of Ocean Shores occupies the Point Brown peninsula on the Washington coast and is so intriguing! I didn't do much research before deciding to go, but over the years I'd heard about lots of fun things to do, so I wasn't worried about the trip being boring. As you can see from my last post, it's been a while since I've done something new :) Upon arrival I was chomping at the bit to get out of the car. It seemed to take forever to get there but I think I felt that way because of the hard work week I had just conquered. We arrived at the Canterberry very eager to unpack and hit the beach. It was about 4:00PM when we arrived, and we didn't want to miss the sunset! We were greeted by the most enthusiastic, polite, but slow front desk clerk. After what seemed like an eternity, we were in our room and preparing to take a long walk on the beach. The walk from the Inn to the beach was an adventure in itself! The beach is lined with motels and hotels. Between the hotels and motels and the beach is grass, mud, water and some paths that lead to nowhere. Naomi was leading the charge, so I wasn't too worried about running into anything hair-raising. Once we were down to the beach, we were amazed by what we saw! Breathtaking. Amazing. I didn't want to leave. I wanted to freeze that moment in time and stay in it forever. Well, it eventually got dark and I started to remember the trek back to the Inn. With my confidence in Naomi dwindling - she kept getting distracted by birds and other ocean animals - Don took the lead with the flashlight and we made it back to our room safely. The next day we were up before the sun and hurried down to the back of the Inn to see the deer. I was afraid at first, but when I was bold enough to get closer, they backed off and that made me feel better. Of course Naomi tried to get as close as possible to check the 2 of them out but she was leery herself. After watching Bambi and her fawn, we of course went back to the beach. We walked, and walked and walked some more. We found a dead sea lion or seal...either way, it smelled unspeakably foul - but of course Naomi decided to rub her entire body over it. Fun times. I pretty much lost it after that. Disgusting. We went to Our Place for breakfast. Everyone was in Seahawks gear!! Bird Gang!! :) Go Hawks! The food was AMAZING! I ate Every. Last. Bite. After stuffing ourselves to the max, we decided to burn it off with flying kites! I felt like a kid again! It was so much fun!! After that you know we had to tear the beach up on mopeds! I had a rough start. I won't like...I thought it was the end for me. Hit the throttle too hard (whiskey throttle they call it) but recovered gracefully :) Had the time of my life! Even though going to Ocean Shores during the off-season seemed like a bad idea for many reasons, we really enjoyed it and needed the break. The weather was gorgeous and there were barely any other people there. Plus, a lot of shops have off-season sales! If you go, I recommend the Canterberry Inn. Make sure to sign the guest book. There's 1 in every room.
